Fresh Pasture—Every Day

Hoop Houses

Twin hoop houses, pulled onto fresh ground daily.

Rust Hill Ranch chickens are raised outdoors in mobile, 10’x12’ custom-built hoop houses. Each day, they are pulled onto a new patch of pasture. This design allows the chickens to have full-time access to fresh air, green leaves, bugs, and sunlight.

The chickens scratch & aerate, and never see the same ground twice during their lifetime. There is no “waste stream,” because any manure is used as fertilizer in-place, enriching the soil and promoting even greener pastures during the next cycle.

Predator control is achieved be sturdy sidewalls supporting a stiff cattle-panel canopy. High arches permit light to enter during cooler hours (and shorter days) when the sun is low on the horizon, while reflective tarp creates shade and reduces heat during high sun.

The chickens look forward to their morning ritual of marching ahead 12 more feet onto crisp green forage. We, too, hope to make our own small, steady steps toward new horizons as we work to regenerate the land, and our souls.
