Chicks Arrive
The 2022 season at Rust Hill Ranch has officially begun. We received a batch of 75 Cornish Cross broiler chicks today.
We’ve experienced a late spring this year, with overnight temperatures below 40°. But the chicks are warm and cozy in the brooder, kept at a temperature of 90° for the first week. As the chicks start to feather out, the temperature in the brooder can be lowered until they’re able to keep warm on their own.
In 2-3 weeks they’ll be out of the brooder and on pasture, foraging on grass, insects, worms, and green leaves.
Our chickens are fed a premium diet of certified organic feed from Cashton Farm Supply in Wisconsin. These better-than-organic chickens will be ready in June, and we look forward to providing our customers with another year of wholesome, healthy, humane meat from our family to yours.
